REPORT: Liverpool Interested in Wolverhamton Wanderers Forward Diogo Jota

Jota

With Thiago announced, Liverpool have already started searching for further reinforcements in what is looking to be a hectic few days at Anfield. The latest man to become the subject of Liverpool interest is reportedly Diogo Jota.

According to Paul Joyce of The Times, The Reds are interested in the forward. And, with young defender Ki-Jana Hoever reportedly going the other way for £10 million, a swap deal could be on the cards.

Jota arrived at last night’s game against Stoke City before immediately leaving after being left out of the squad. The forward was also an unused sub against Sheffield United in the league opener. A move looks increasingly likely with Liverpool particularly interested.

Liverpool Interested in Jota

Front Three Backup

For years, Liverpool have lacked a consistent enough backup striker to the famous front three. Divock Origi has made himself a hero, yes, but, when asked to perform consistently, the Belgian has failed to impress.

Diogo Jota would instantly solve one of the only remaining problems at Liverpool. He would bring the ability to link play as well as hold the ball up and, most importantly, the ability to press. If his partnership with Raul Jimenez is anything to go by, too, he could strike up a brilliant partnership with the likes of Mohamed Salah at Liverpool.

Transfer Alternative

According to Dominic King of the Daily Mail, Jota is an alternative to Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, who has likely proved too costly for the Liverpool hierarchy to consider a move.

Alternative option or not, Jota’s talent is obvious. Signing the Portuguese forward would make perfect sense for Liverpool as they seek a backup option capable of filling the shoes of the rarely absent front three.

Melissa Reddy also stated that Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of the player and is optimistic of securing a move.
