Sheffield United Complete Signings of Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe From Derby County

Jayden Bogle

Sheffield United have added some much-needed depth to their squad with the additions of young Derby County pair Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe. Both players have signed four-year deals with the Blades, making the step up from the Championship to the Premier League. The Telegraph’s Jonathan Percy reports that the fee is £10 million for the pair.

Much-Needed Depth

Sheffield United were the surprise package of last season in the Premier League. They were playing League One football as recently as 2017 with the same manager and largely the same squad, but rarely looked out of place in the top flight.

Despite this, the obvious issue with Chris Wilder’s squad was the lack of depth. The Blades rarely made changes to their line-up, particularly in defence. This worked in their favour a lot of the time, but after lockdown with player fitness issues and injuries more prevalent, the flaws started to come through.

Points to Prove

Derby received a lot of praise last season for their work with young players. Bogle and Lowe are just two of the young Rams who impressed last season under Phillip Cocu.

Both will feel that they can make the step up – in particular Bogle, who was highly praised during the 2018/19 season he had at Derby under Frank Lampard.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club website about the move, Blades manager Chris Wilder said: “The Championship has been a great recruitment area for us and I wanted to bring some young players in who will provide competition for places.

“Jayden and Max will put huge pressure on George (Baldock) and Enda (Stevens). It was important we got the right characters, the right type of players, ones who are athletic and technically very good, both are modern-day wing-backs and I’m looking forward to working with them.

“We’ve got a clear plan and identification of what we need and we’re still going through that process. We’re not just signing players because other people are in for them, we’re signing these players because they fit into what we are about.”
