Newport County’s Fourth Summer Signing

20-year-old Janneh is set to be with the Exiles for the entire 2020/21 campaign, but Bristol City do have an option to recall him in January should they want to.

This move marks the Gambian striker’s first real chance to play regularly in the EFL. He has spent the majority of the last two years on loan at West Country club Torquay United.

Janneh played a fairly key role as the Gulls lifted the National League South title in 2019, having netted a total of 16 league goals over the course of the season.

However, last term he only featured in nine matches in all competitions in the National League, as Torquay finished in mid-table.

Meanwhile, Newport finished the 2019/20 season in 14th place in League Two, after the final standings were decided on a points-per-game basis, and have been adding to their squad over the past few weeks.

Janneh is the Exiles’ fourth signing of the summer and is the second striker to have come through the Rodney Parade doors this month, after Ryan Taylor, who arrived on August 20.

With the influence of some fresh talent, manager Michael Flynn is likely to be hoping for an improvement in terms of league position.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club’s official website, Janneh revealed what made him want to move to South Wales.

He said: “The manager really wanted me to come here and he likes the way that I play. I learned a lot playing in the National League with Torquay last season and I think it has put me in good stead for League Two.

“I want to come to this club, work hard and score as many goals as possible. I can’t wait for the new season to get underway.”
