Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the addition of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Taylor Richards on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old becomes the club’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Josef Bursik, on loan from Stoke City and former Crystal Palace winger Jason Lokilo on a free.

A Lot of Talent Spending Key Years at the Keepmoat

Richards is the latest prospect to make the move to the Keepmoat Stadium on loan.

Doncaster Rovers are proving a good place for young players to go on loan.

The likes of Ben Sheaf, Cameron John, Jacob Ramsey, Niall Ennis, and Seny Dieng, who spent the last campaign at the South Yorkshire club, all look on the cusp of better things.

The Right Place

Doncaster has not just become the right place to go on loan for so many talents, they’ve become an exciting place to go.

The Doncaster Free Press have previously reported Manchester United midfielder James Garner was impressed by the style of play and culture at the club implemented by former West Bromwich Albion head coach Darren Moore since his arrival in the summer of 2019.

With sources claiming Garner told officials he saw the Keepmoat as an ideal loan destination in October 2019. That never came to fruition.

It seems the clubs with talent at their disposal are also very aware of this.

Manchester United have been impressed by the progress young players have made on loan at Doncaster.

They have admired the manner in which loan players are handled and the games time they are afforded at the club.

Josef Bursik, who joined on loan last week, said ‘it was a no brainer’ as soon as he heard of Doncaster’s interest.

Richards’ Career So Far

Taylor Richards left the Manchester City setup for Brighton last summer, having impressed in Premier League 2, the UEFA Youth League, and the EFL Trophy.

Richards has already made his debut for Brighton, playing all of their 3-1 Carabao Cup loss to Aston Villa last September.

He has featured in the England setup, at Under-17 level.

He’s also had quite a bit of experience against Football League sides through the EFL Trophy.

The youngster has contributed to five goals in 11 appearances since 2017/18 in the competition.

At 19, now could be the perfect time for him to go to League One on loan and gain valuable minutes.

Season Starts on Saturday

Doncaster Rovers kick start their 2020/21 campaign with a Carabao Cup first-round fixture on Saturday. They’ll face Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, kicking off at 3pm.

They were held to a 0-0 draw by Derby County in a pre-season friendly at the weekend, having previously beaten Scunthorpe United 3-2 and Bradford City 4-3.

Club legend James Coppinger heads into his final year at the club, hopefully, fans will be able to enjoy as much of his last season at the club as possible.
