Aleksandar Stanojevic to Replace Mark Bowen as Reading Boss

Less Than a Year in the Job

Bowen has been the Reading manager for less than a year.

He was promoted to the role of first-team manager following the sacking of Jose Gomes in October 2019. The Royals were in 22nd place at the time of the Portuguese’s departure, having won just two of their opening 11 games.

The search for a new manager was short-lived, as Bowen – who was already at the club – took over a few days later.

The Welshman started superbly, failing to lose any of his first four games in charge. However, their inconsistency soon returned, and that remained a tale for much of the season.

A run of seven games over the Christmas period saw the Royals go undefeated, conceding just three times in the process. It was a run that saw them move away from the relegation places.

Who is Aleksandar Stanojevic?

As Bowen looks set to return to his former role, the man tipped to replace him is Aleksandar Stanojevic.

The 46-year-old’s best spell as a manager came in charge of Partizan Belgrade. He won 60 of his 80 games in charge of the Serbian giants during his two years there.

However, in recent years his managerial career has taken a turn for the worse. Stanojevic’s spell in charge of Greek club PAOK lasted less than two months, despite winning once and drawing once.

He was then appointed as manager of Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah in 2018. However, the Serbian did not last long there either; he was sacked after winning just two of his games nine games in charge.

Most recently, he was manager of Chinese club Beijing Renhe. While he left on his own terms, he won four games during his seven months as their boss.
