The 2020 summer transfer window is slowly becoming the Chelsea show. The Blues have already secured the signature’s of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech alongside the near completion of deals for Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva. Now, according to Fabrizio Romano and Téléfoot, free agent Malang Sarr has been offered to Chelsea.
As stated by Romano, ‘Sarr would like to join, but he also has other bids, the board will decide with Lampard.”
Sarr Offered to Chelsea in Latest Potential Deal
Much Needed Defensive Reinforcements?
Much has been made about Chelsea’s spending so far this summer, but, in reality, they have failed to find a solution to their weakness. Instead of adding much-needed defensive reinforcements, the west London club, so far, have focused on adding to an already prospering attack.
Lampard’s side had the worst defence in the top six last season; the priority from the off should have been fixing the leaky backline.
Nonetheless, with their attacking targets now secured, Chelsea have seemingly turned their focus towards that vulnerable back four. The Blues are reportedly close to securing deals for Silva and Ben Chilwell with Malang Sarr also an option presented to them.
Sarr Is a Risk-Free Transfer
With Sarr being a free agent, the deal is a risk-free one from Frank Lampard’s point of view. If the defender proves to be an instant success, then he’ll be honoured as the bargain of the summer. If he fails to reach expectations, however, Chelsea can simply sell him on for profit.
No matter what, if Chelsea were to target Sarr, it would be a transfer without any consequences. For Sarr, he now has the opportunity as a free agent to make potentially the decision of his career so far.
The 21-year-old could go onto become a top defender if he finds the right next step this summer.
