Fourth Summer Signing

Marcus McGuane becomes Karl Robinson’s fourth summer signing. The central midfielder follows winger Joel Cooper, striker Matty Taylor and versatile defender Sean Clare to the Kassam Stadium.

The 21-year-old came through the youth academy with Arsenal. However, he managed just two appearances for the senior side before joining Barcelona.

He made 26 appearances for the B-Team, and made his one and only senior appearance in the Supercopa de Catalunya Final. He came on as a 77th-minute substitute for Aleix Vidal.

He returned to England after a six-month loan spell in Holland and joined Nottingham Forest on a two-and-a-half-year deal. However, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, McGuane is yet to feature for the Championship side.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs’ official website, U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “He can be just about anything he wants to be. He is still very young but what a journey to have been on even at his age.

“He can play a defensive role or as more of an attacking midfielder and we can’t wait to work with him.”

McGuane, who joined up with the U’s at their Training Camp in Wales, said: “I’m buzzing to be with such a great club. I have been made to feel very welcome and can’t wait to get started.

“The aim is to get regular games and push on from there. Training has been hard so far but I’ve really enjoyed it and you can see there are some really good players here.

“The Gaffer has been brilliant and I know what is expected when you pull on the yellow shirt so I am determined to make the most of this opportunity.”
