Third Summer Signing

Keita Endo joins 1.FC Union Berlin on a season long loan from Yokohoma F. Marinos. The 22-year-old has turned out 139 times for the Japanese club in just over four years, where he has scored 16 goals and provided 22 assists.

Die Eisernen have the option to buy the midfielder, who can play on either side, at the end of the season. He has featured three times for Japan’s Under-20 side before he was called up to the senior side, where he has since earned two caps.

Endo, who also won the J1 League and Asian Champions League, follows full-back Niko Giesselmann and midfielder Sebastian Griesbeck, who joined Urs’ Fischer’s side earlier this month.

What Was Said

Speaking to the clubs official website, Endo said: “I’m very proud to come into the Bundesliga and to be able to show my skills in one of the best leagues in the world.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things from the club and the city and I’m looking forward to playing at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei soon.”

Oliver Ruhnert, Union’s Director for Professional Football, added: “We’ve been watching Keita Endo for a long time and we’re happy that he has decided to come to Köpenick.

“Keita is a very interesting player with great skills who can help us with his speed and technique. Now it’s important to integrate him as quickly as possible and to make his arrival in Germany as easy as possible so that he can demonstrate his full potential in the Bundesliga.”
