Huddersfield Town top-scorer Karlan Grant is reportedly nearing an exit to one of the Terriers’ Championship rivals.

Karlan Grant: Huddersfield Town Receive £15 Million Bid for Striker

Terriers Top-Scorer a Wanted Asset

Grant has been a stand-out player in a dire season for the Yorkshire outfit.

The forward has netted 18 goals, the club’s top-scoring individual, as the Terriers edge closer to Championship survival.

Despite their second-tier status being secured, the Terriers sacked manager Danny Cowley on Sunday (July 19).

And just a matter of hours later, the Terriers’ top-scorer has been linked with a move away.

According to Ben McKenna of the Yorkshire Post, a bid of around £15 million has been placed by an unnamed Championship side.

Grant made the move to the John Smith’s Stadium in January 2019 – a time when the Yorkshire side were still a top-flight team.

The forward’s contract is set to run until summer 2022, and the Terriers also have the option to extend the deal by another 12 months.

He finished the 2018-19 season, Town’s relegation season, as their top-scorer with four goals.

The club rejected an approach from an unnamed rival in January.

Huddersfield Town will likely look back on that decision last winter with pleasure having seen the downfall of rivals Hull City; the Tigers sold Jarrod Bowen to West Ham and are to face an inevitable drop to League One.

This season Grant has taken another step forward with his form in front of goal.

The 22-year-old has netted 18 goals – ten more than nearest Terriers rival Steve Mounie – and added four assists.

His impressive goalscoring record for the Yorkshire side has seen him become a regular fixture, making 42 appearances.

Verdict

Having finished top-scorer two seasons in a row, Grant can no longer be referred to as a ‘one-season wonder’.

The 22-year-old has been an ever-present figure in the Terriers side and, when goals have been needed, the former Charlton Athletic forward has stepped up to the plate.

A return to the Premier League may be too soon for the 22-year-old; however, Grant would certainly fit in with a mid-table or top half Championship side.
