Once football restarted after the lockdown, Harry Kane was looking tired. His injury was catching up with him – he looked slow and fatigued.
After he took his tally to over 200 goals for the club with a brace against Newcastle United, he was once again in sensational goalscoring form against the Foxes.
Son Heung-Min had his shot turned into his own goal by James Justin before Kane took Spurs into an unassailable lead.
The first of his goals was counter-attacking perfection. Kane hit a low left-footed shot into the far corner.
His second and Tottenham Hotspur’s third was outrageous. Kane cut inside and the Leicester defence was standing strong. The Englishman had no right to score but score he did curling a right-footed shot beyond Kasper Schmeichel.
Tottenham Into Sixth
Spurs still have it all to do and face Crystal Palace in the final game of the season on Sunday 26 July. Since the restart Spurs have 13 points from a possible 15. For all of the criticism aimed at Jose Mourinho, the fact is that he would have had Spurs in fourth place based on his stats. Spurs fans may need to temper their impatience with the Portuguese manager.
Leicester City Can Still Make the Champions League
Manchester United have a game in hand on Leicester and now know they need just two points from the last two games to secure Champions League football for next season. Leicester face Manchester United on the final day of the season at the King Power Stadium. That looks like being a fabulous game. Making the Champions League would have been a dream at the start of the season for Leicester City. Missing out would be a huge disappointment, which is a mark of just how far they have come in recent years.
World Class Harry Needs Trophies
Harry Kane once again proved that he is world class. He surely cannot finish his career without a trophy to his name. The club now has to prove that they can match his ambition. One more season might be all fans can expect. Winning trophies with Tottenham is what the player wants.
Maybe next season could be that opportunity.
