Tranmere Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Mike Jackson as their new first-team manager.

The new boss was assistant manager to predecessor Micky Mellon, who was appointed as manager of Dundee United earlier this month.

Previous Managerial Experience

The 46-year-old has only had one previous managerial role in football.

He was appointed as Shrewsbury Town manager on a short-term deal in 2014. However, it was hugely unsuccessful, as he won just three of his 19 games in charge.

Jackson has spent much of his coaching career as an assistant. He was Micky Mellon’s number two at both Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere.

However, he is now returning to management once more. In his playing career, Jackson did enjoy a two-year spell at Prenton Park, making 84 appearances after initially joining on loan.

What Was Said

Speaking to the official Tranmere Rovers website, Jackson stressed the importance of already being familiar with the club.

“I am really proud to have this opportunity to manage this fantastic football club that I have played for and coached,” he said.

“I am really excited about getting going. It is a great challenge and I can’t wait to get started.

“I understand exactly what is required to manage this football club and what is expected from a Tranmere manager, and a Tranmere player, and I am determined to help move the football club in the right direction.

“I know what the supporters expect from a Tranmere Rovers team, and the important role they play, and as a Club, we are focused on moving forwards together.”

Mike Palios, Tranmere chairman, said: “Mike has been a big part of our success in recent years and has earned his chance to make the step up to managing the team.

“He is a great coach with a forward-thinking approach to the game and understands the Tranmere DNA. On top of all of this, he is a proven winner in his career to date.”
