Mikel Arteta Squashes Alexandre Lacazette Exit Talks

Mikel Arteta has watered down all transfer rumours circulating Alexandre Lacazette, declaring his desires to keep the French International.

With Eddie Nketiah pushing for his place in the pecking order at Arsenal, alongside the thought of no Champions League football, Lacazette might be tempted to quit the Emirates. The Frenchman, who has two years left on his contract, has been the subject of a transfer move, with Atletico Madrid and Juventus linked with the 29-year-old.

However, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has openly stated his intent to keep hold of the France International.

Mikel Arteta Hopes to Keep Hold of Alexandre Lacazette

What Arteta Said

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup semi-final match with Manchester City, Arteta said: “Why would I want to lose a player like him? I’m really happy with him. I really like Alex, I said that even before I joined here that he is the type of striker that I really like.”

He further stated: “I think he had periods where he was very unlucky because he was having the chances and not converting them which he is not used to.

“But the way he can link play, he’s a massive competitor he hates to lose. He goes for every ball, you see in every challenge how he’s ready to go. He works really hard and he’s a very intelligent player, I am really happy with him.”

Involvement in Remaining Fixtures

Arteta hopes his side can bounce back from their earlier defeat to the Citizens as he aims to get one over his former employees.

Lacazette, who has been on form lately, was instrumental in their last game against league champions Liverpool. He latched on to a defensive mistake to open the scoring for the Gunners before setting up the second for Reiss Nelson in an emphatic a 2-1 victory.

The Frenchman has recorded ten goals and four assists in all competitions this season.
