Kane Wilson: West Bromwich Albion Full-Back Joins Forest Green Rovers Permanently

Experienced Loanee

The versatile wing-back joins on a free transfer from the Hawthorns having spent extensive time on-loan throughout the last two years.

Wilson, who has been a Baggie since he was seven years old, was fast-tracked from the Under-18s to the first team in 2016.

The 20-year-old made his debut for the Albion against Paris Saint-Germain and his first start against Torquay United.

His competitive debut came against Northampton Town in August 2016 in the EFL Cup.

Discussing the move, he said: “I’m really pleased to be joining Forest Green, my family are so proud. Now I just can’t wait to get going for the new season.”

Richard Hughes, Director of Football, added: “We are really pleased to get this one done, we see Kane as a great asset to the football club and think he will be a good fit for us.

“He is the modern full-back and can affect the play at both ends of the pitch.”

Wilson’s time away from the Hawthorns began with Exeter City in August 2017.

The 20-year-old scored one goal in 19 appearances for the Devon outfit before returning to the Midlands.

Wilson was sent off on his Grecians debut after collecting two yellow cards.

He returned to the Hawthorns briefly before heading to Walsall in League One.

The wing-back managed 14 appearances at the start of the 2018-19 season; eventually, he returned to Exeter City on a second loan spell.

Wilson was a part of the Tranmere Rovers squad relegated from League One to League Two.

The 20-year-old failed to score in 17 appearances, although he added one assist in a disappointing campaign for the Rovers.

He becomes another sign of intent from Rovers boss Mark Cooper, arriving as their fourth signing of the summer.
