First Summer Signing

Last season, Union manager Urs Fischer saw 14 new players come through the doors ahead of their maiden Bundesliga campaign, and the capital club are quick to add to their ranks already this season.

Born in Ulm, the midfielder turned out for his hometown club in the lower leagues of German Football. After three seasons, he joined Heidenheim. He won promotion from 3. Liga in his first season, before securing the clubs greatest ever finish last season, when they ended their campaign third in 2. Bundesliga.

Although the club failed to gain promotion through the relegation playoff after losing on away goals to Werder Bremen, it was a good season as a whole.

During his time with the club, he made well over 200 appearances over his seven-year stint.

What Was Said

The midfielder said: “Bundesliga with Union – this is a challenge I’m looking forward to. I’ve already met Union as an opponent and, especially during matches at the Alte Försterei, I’ve experienced what makes this club so special.

“Union have developed enormously in recent years and has had a strong first season in the Bundesliga. Now I want to contribute to being successful in the first division in the new season.”

Director for Professional Football, Oliver Ruhnert, added: “We’ve had Sebastian Griesbeck in our sights for some time now and are convinced that he can strengthen our squad.

“He is robust, aerially strong and has enormous experience. His qualities will help us in the Bundesliga, so we are pleased that we’re able to get him on board.”
