Ipswich Town Move Quickly With Contract Extensions

The Blues have acted in advance of an impending salary cap by offering new contracts to several players.

On Monday (July 6), Town exercised clauses in the contracts of Jon Nolan and Tomas Holy.

The pair both had a year remaining on their deals but have had their contracts extended until 2022.

Holy becomes the only senior goalkeeper at Portman Road after Will Norris returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

28-year-old Nolan, meanwhile, will look to become a more regular feature in the Town squad.

He must compete alongside Cole Skuse, Flynn Downes, Andre Dozzell, Teddy Bishop, Emyr Huws and Alan Judge for a midfield starting role.

It has been reported that League One clubs will be limited to a wage bill of £2.5 million.

The move comes as clubs unite in wanting to lower their spending due to the coronavirus pandemic; however, that would require a huge cut on Town’s estimated outgoings of £6 million.
