Brentford’s Rampant Form Has Them Firmly in the Automatic Promotion Race

The Bees are motoring nicely after collecting a fourth win a row at Reading in midweek.

Thomas Frank’s team are doing everything in the power to sneak into the Championship top two.

They are scoring goals and playing with a swagger. While their attack takes all the plaudits, the Bees resilient defence is shining through. They have yet to concede a goal since the restart.

Thomas Frank has a fully fit squad to choose from. Frank will likely stick with the starting eleven but due to the fixture congestion, he may opt to make changes. Joel Valencia could be involved after his excellent display from the bench against Reading.

Victory is imperative for the Bees as they chase Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.

Wigan Hope to End a Difficult Week on a High

Its been a stressful week for anyone associated with Wigan Athletic. The impact of the coronavirus has hit the club hard. They were placed into administration on Wednesday, 24 hours after a sensational win against Stoke City.

With a points deduction looming on the Latics, Paul Cook’s team must continue their excellent form on the pitch. The Latics have been scoring goals and collecting points. They have won six of their last seven league games and overall are unbeaten in nine.

They will certainly give Brentford a run for their money with the need for points even greater than before. Paul Cook will gear up his players for the final six matches of the season and push the off field matters to one side.

Like Thomas Frank, Paul Cook has a fully fit squad to choose from. Wigan’s only absentee is Chey Dunkley who continues to recover from a broken leg.

Points are imperative for the Latics between now and the end of the season. They will fancy their chances of ruffling Brentford’s feathers.

Previous Meeting

Brentford thrashed Wigan in a badly heated contest back in November. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Josh Dasilva secured the Bees victory on the night. Both teams finished the match with ten men – Cedric Kipre and Julian Jeanvier given their marching orders.

Prediction

With this being Wigan’s first match since they went into administration its hard to gauge where the minds are at. They need the points now more than ever. Focus has to shift to on field matters with Championship safety out of their hands.

Brentford are flying and are hunting a fifth straight league win. That would be their best winning sequence this season. A win is imperative to their chances of securing automatic promotion.
