REPORT: Arsenal Want to Negotiate Fee for Thomas Partey

Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a while now. The midfielder has been the constant name on the lips of Arsenal fans as they look for any hope of future success under Mikel Arteta. And, with the Gunners slowly slipping into mid-table mediocracy, transfers are desperately needed, starting with Partey. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal have stepped up their interest in the 27-year-old, but want to negotiate a better fee than the £45 million release clause/

A Player Arsenal Desperately Need

With Arsenal slowly slipping into a permanent mid-table position, Mikel Arteta needs to act quickly and efficiently in the transfer market, something Arsenal have failed to do in the past. This time around, however, the transfer is not a want but a need.

By securing the signing of Partey, they will finally solidify and solve their midfield problem. Lucas Torreira came and tried to fix it, Granit Xhaka too, but neither possessed the power and ability to do so. Partey, on the other hand, has more than proven his capabilities in dominant Champions League performances against Liverpool, including a win at Anfield. The price of £45 million for a player so capable of helping to turn Arsenal’s fortunes around, could turn out to be a bargain one.

Money Problems For Arsenal

While the rest of the top six seem to casually spend over £100 million on reinforcements with each passing year, Arsenal are struggling to keep up with those around them. And, after announcing a loss of £27.1 million last year, money may well prove to be an obstacle for the Gunners yet again, especially with the ever-increasing prospect of no European football next season.

This could well put an end to any Arsenal hope of securing a deal for Partey this summer, and perhaps any big-name signings for that matter.
