REPORT: Three Clubs Show Interest in Cardiff City Defender Jazz Richards

Bristol City, Luton Town and Oxford United have all shown interest in Cardiff City defender, Jazz Richards, according to reports by WalesOnline.

The 29-year-old full-back is one of a number of players out of contract in the summer, and Bluebirds’ boss Neil Harris revealed both the club and Richards decided it was best if the player departed.

Two Championship Clubs Eyeing Defender

The Bluebirds’ Severnside rivals are thought to be the favourites to land the Swansea born full-back. The Robins are short in that area of the field as manager Lee Johnson looks to rebuild his squad for next season.

It is reported that Johnson is in the market for two full-backs and a defensive midfielder this summer. Richards can play both at left-back and right back, and will be an attractive prospect as a result.

The Robins are still hoping to finish in the top six this season, despite a downfall in form.

The other Championship side that have shown interest are at the other end of the table. Luton Town managed once again by Welshman Nathan Jones, are in a relegation battle, so maintaining their second-tier status could be crucial if they’re to secure Richards’ signature.

League One Interest

The third club to show interest, according to WalesOnline, is League One promotion hopefuls, Oxford United.

Again, like if Luton suffer relegation, a move to League One may not suit Richards, but the U’s face a two-legged semi-final playoff against Portsmouth in the hope of reaching the second tier.

Similarly to Bristol City, U’s boss Karl Robinson will be looking to reinforce his defence in the summer. Sam Long, the clubs only right-back, signed a new deal earlier in the week, but a move away for Rob Dickie is a constant threat.

Jazz Richards at Cardiff

Capped 14 times by Wales, Richards has only made 57 Cardiff appearances, despite joining the club in 2016.

The defender, who can also cover in midfield has had an injury-hit four years in South Wales and has missed 68 matches through injury in all competitions during his Cardiff tenure.

There is no doubt that the full-back has the ability, but he, and his next club, will be hoping the injury worries are behind him.
