Stokes returned earlier this year, five years after his first spell ended. He made over 130 appearances for Forest Green before joining Coventry City in 2015. Since then, Stokes has featured for the Sky Blues, Bury and Stevenage. The vastly experienced defender has made over 300 career appearances since making his senior debut.

Stokes returned in January to compete with Joseph Mills and provide cover for the defence. He has been a fans’ favourite in both spells with the club. His first spell was hugely successful, including a Fans’ Player of the Year title for the 2011/12 season.

Another Success From Non-League

Stokes made his name in non-league football with Forest Green having been released by first club Bolton Wanderers. The defender has grown from strength to strength at each club he has played for.

His CV includes a promotion with Bury in 2019 prior to their expulsion from the Football League. He will relish the challenge of getting Forest Green into League One. Mark Cooper’s side have come up short the last two seasons. Stokes will be hoping its third time lucky. An experienced head to help Forest Green’s young players. Cooper will be delighted to see him commit his future to the club.
