Nathan Ferguson Departure Confirmed as West Bromwich Albion Announce Released List

Nathan Ferguson

Nathan Ferguson is a free agent after his long-expected departure was confirmed with the announcement of West Bromwich Albion’s released list. The club also announced via their website that Ali Al-Habsi, Kane Wilson and Jack Fitzwater have left the club, whilst Chris Brunt, Gareth Barry, Lee Peltier and Jonathan Bond will remain to see out the season.

Youngster On the Move

The departure of youth academy graduate Nathan Ferguson is an expected but disappointing ending to a season-long saga. With a lucrative new deal on the table for much of the season, Albion fans had hoped that he would eventually decide to stay. But the 19-year-old refused to engage in contract talks with the club, despite becoming a regular in Slaven Bilić’s first 11.

It appears that Crystal Palace are now in pole position to acquire the services of Ferguson for next season. He had been set to join the London club in January after the two clubs agreed an £11 million fee with a further £1 million in add-ons, but the move collapsed at the last minute when Palace picked up a problem with the defender’s knee during his medical.

Released List

Veteran players Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry have both signed an extension that will keep them at the club until the end of the season. Albion had already announced beforehand that Brunt would be leaving this summer after 13 years. Lee Peltier and Jonathan Bond have also agreed to end the campaign with the Baggies.

Goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi has decided not to sign with the club short-term, opting to leave with immediate effect. Long-serving academy graduates Kane Wilson and Jack Fitzwater have also been released. Wilson spent this season on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Fitzwater has had three successful loan spells at Walsall.

Academy players Dean Meredith, Jack Chambers, Kevin Healy, Brad House and Sam Wilding have also left the club.
