Several Key Players’ Contracts up for Renewal

Wednesday have several players who are heading towards the end of their contracts this month.

Top-scorer Steven Fletcher is one of a number of individuals whose contracts at Hillsborough expire later this summer – defender Morgan Fox and strike duo Fernando Forestieri and Atdhe Nuhiu are also in the same position.

Monk has confirmed that midfielder Kieran Lee will remain at the club for next season, but the Owls boss is hopeful that more players will follow suit.

Ahead of his side’s Championship restart against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, he said: “I know Kieran Lee will definitely be extending for the short-term at least.

“But with the others, there are still discussions to go on, but we have time.

“We have two games where all of us are committed and then beyond that, hopefully the others commit as well. Discussions are ongoing.”

Turning his focus to Fletcher, Monk added: “With Fletch, he picked up and injury, so he didn’t train last week. It was a slight niggle.

“He has been back in training this week, so he has trained all week and that’s good.

“In terms of that side of it, all the players who are in the training ground who are out of contract have been asked to extend beyond this month into next month to complete these games.”

Wednesday are also in dialogue with clubs who they are loaning players from, including Conor Wickham, Jacob Murphy and Alessio da Cruz.

Josh Windass is another loanee for the Owls but he is currently injured and an assessment on his future will be made later this month.
