Liverpool Confident of Securing New Georginio Wijnaldum Deal

Wijnaldum Contract to Expire Next Summer

With the midfielder’s contract expiring next summer, Liverpool are said to be “hopeful” of extending the Dutch internationals stay, in a deal which would see Wijnaldum at the club for another three or four years until 2024/2025.

Initially, some reports suggested Wijnaldum’s future looked uncertain at Liverpool, leading to believe he could depart the club in June of next year, however, things are said to be running ‘smoothly’ with a breakthrough being made between the club, agent and player.

The 29-year-old Wijnaldum wanted clarification regarding whether he would continue to be a key player at the club before starting further contract discussions.

Wijnaldum’s Importance in this Fantastic Side

Arriving from Newcastle in July 2016, Wijnaldum has firmly established himself as a fan favourite at Anfield, most notably with his brace against Barcelona in the semi-final of Liverpool’s victorious Champions League campaign last season.

A regular name on the Liverpool teamsheet, Wijnaldum’s play has helped Liverpool to not only to European glory, but also guided them to the top of the Premier League table, with the Reds well on their way to winning their first title in 30 years.

18 goals and 16 assists during his ongoing tenure at the club, Wijnaldum’s endless stamina and playmaking abilities make him a vital player in this Liverpool side.

A Good Week for Liverpool Fans

Gini Wijnaldum is not the only Liverpool player undergoing contract discussions this week as Adam Lallana has recently put pen to paper regarding a mini contract extension at the club.

With both Klopp and Lallana himself wanting to finish his six-year tenure at the club as a Premier League champion, the Englishman has agreed to a deal keeping him at the club for the remainder of Liverpool’s 2020 fixtures.

The 32-year-old Lallana will then call time on his fantastic career at Anfield.

No doubt a busy week for Liverpool’s hierarchy in terms of contract discussions, as wonderkid Harvey Elliot is also reportedly set to sign his first professional contract at the club.
