Desperate to Reach a Milestone

Cisse played for Auxerre, Marseille and Bastia during his time in Ligue 1, scoring 96 goals. However, the 38-year-old is desperate to add to his tally to make it to 100. The former France international announced his retirement in February 2015 but is now desperate to return and finish his career on his terms.

Speaking about his desire to reach the milestone, Cisse said: “You know how it is with goalscorers, we love goals, we love hitting milestones; 25, 50, 75… for me, it’s the landmark of 100 that haunts me, I’ve been stuck on 96 since I stopped.

“I am missing four goals and it gets to me, it drives me crazy! I want to come back to Ligue 1 to get them. If a club takes me, I can get them in two or three months.”

Successful Career

After a prolific spell at Auxerre, scoring 70 goals in 128 games, a £14 million move to Liverpool followed in 2004. A major injury disrupted his time at Anfield but the striker still helped the Reds win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FA Cup.

A move back to his native France with Marseille brought a further 24 Ligue 1 goals before a return to the Premier League with Sunderland.

Cisse would travel around several different leagues in the following years including Serie A and another spell in England with Queens Park Rangers. In 2014 Cisse returned to France with Bastia where he would take his Ligue 1 tally to 96, a tally he is currently stuck on.

Hopeful of Fulfilling his Dream

Cisse, who played 41 games for his nation, is hopeful a club will take him up on his offer to play for free: “I’m ready to come back and play for free, without pay, so there isn’t much of a risk for them. For the moment, I’m not in advanced talks with anybody but I hope that clubs will appear.”
