Luton Town Players out of Contract This Summer

Six points from safety with just nine league games remaining, Luton Town require a big effort to remain in the Championship. Graeme Jones’ squad could also suffer a major overhaul in the summer with up to 13 players seeing their contract run out at the end of the current campaign.

Up to 13 Could Leave

It’s been a difficult first season for the Hatters as they’ve had to resettle to life back in the Championship. Luton have spent the majority of the season in the bottom three and it could be a major rebuild in the summer with the risk of losing numerous key players.

The first of which is the clubs second-highest scorer this season. Harry Cornick has netted eight goals and provided three assists in 39 appearances, but the 25-year-old, who has been at the club since 2017, could move on this summer.

Three strikers are at risk of leaving the club, too. Danny Hylton, Elliot Lee and Josh Neufville all see their contract expire this summer. Hylton, who joined the club from Oxford United when in League Two, has scored just under 60 goals in just over 120 appearances, but has spent much of this season injured. Lee joined in 2017 and has gone on to score 25 goals in under 100 appearances, however this season he has been out of favour. Finally, 19-year-old Neufville came through the Hatters youth set up but has spent time away on loan this season.

Three goalkeepers also see their contract expire. James Shea, who joined in 2017, has fallen out of favour since the arrival of record signing Simon Sluga in the summer. Like Shea, Marek Stech has fallen down the pecking order, while 23-year-old Harry Isted is yet to feature for the first team, having spent time out on loan.

Many Midfielders to see Contract Expire

Five midfielders are also out of contract this summer, with four of them having played 20 games this season. Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu has played 37 times this season having joined in 2017, but his option for a one-year extension hasn’t yet been activated. Fellow holding midfielder, Glen Rea, is another who could leave. The 25-year-old has made just shy of 150 Hatters appearances but has spent time away on loan at National League Woking this season.

Kazenga LuaLua, Andrew Shinnie and Luke Berry could also exit Kenilworth Road. LuaLua has featured this season, scoring twice in 27 appearances, while Shinnie and Berry have both played just under 20 times this campaign. If the trio leave, Luton will lose player that have made just short of 200 appearances for the club.

Finally, centre-back Frankie Musonda is another that will see his contract expire. The 22-year-old has been with the club since 2015 but has made just 14 Hatters appearances, with just three league appearances coming in League Two four seasons ago. Having spent much of his Luton career away on loan, the defender could leave for good this summer.
