Marouane Fellaini Tests Positive for Coronavirus

According to reports from BBC Sport, former Manchester United and Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has contracted the coronavirus. Furthermore, he is apparently the only Chinese Super League player to have contracted the virus so far.

The coronavirus pandemic has swept the world, and many high profile football players contracting the virus. Serie A has the most cases in Europe, with players such as Paulo Dybala and Manolo Gabbiadini contracting COVID-19. Now, a CSL player has got the virus.

Former EPL Player Fellaini Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Belgian Still in Good Condition

Fellaini said in a statement on Twitter, “Dear friends, I have been tested for coronavirus and my test result is positive.

“Thanks to the fans, medical staff and the club for their care and attention. I will follow the treatment and hope to return to the game as soon as possible. Please, everyone, stay safe.”

Reports from within China say Fellaini is in isolation at Jinan hospital, which specializes in infectious diseases.

Shandong Luneng also made a statement: “The official test confirmed that the player Fellaini has tested positive for coronavirus during the quarantine observation period.

“During this period, the player’s body temperature has been normal and there are no other discomforts. He has received further observation and treatment at a designated medical institution.”

His Time in China

The Belgian moved to Shandong Luneng from Manchester United in January 2019. He left after struggling for game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

During his time at Old Trafford, Fellaini scored 22 goals in 177 appearances in all competitions for United.

His first season in China ended in a fifth-place finish for Shandong Luneng. He played 22 times last season, scoring eight goals and grabbing three assists.

This season, instead of playing at the 56,000-capacity Jinan Olympic Sports Center Stadium, he’s now isolated at Jinan Hospital. However, as aforementioned, he is reported to be feeling okay.
