Paolo Maldini and Son Daniel Receive Positive Coronavirus Tests

Both in Quarantine

Both Paolo and Daniel – who made his first-team debut for Milan last month – have spent the last two weeks isolating themselves and will continue to do so for the duration of their illness.

In a club statement, AC Milan said: “AC Milan confirms that Paolo Maldini, the club’s technical director, became aware of contact with a person who subsequently tested positive for Coronavirus and began to display symptoms of the virus himself.

“He was administered with a swab test [on Friday], the result of which was positive. His son Daniel, a forward in AC Milan’s youth team who had previously been training with the first team, also tested positive.

“Paolo and Daniel are both well and have already completed two weeks at home without contact with others. They will now remain in quarantine until clinically recovered, as per the medical protocols outlined by the health authorities.”

Maldini won seven league titles and five European Cups while a player with AC Milan. He has also made the most Serie A appearances (657) of any outfield player in the history of the league.

Hard-Hit

Italy has suffered greatly during this pandemic, being he hardest-hit countries outside of China, where the virus started. They have recorded more than 50,000 Coronavirus cases and the death toll is approaching 5,000, more than any other country in the world.

A host of Serie A players have tested positive for the virus, including Juventus players Paulo Dybala, Blaise Matuidi and Daniele Rugani, while former Southampton striker Manolo Gabbiadini, now at Sampdoria, has also tested positive.
