Rolando Aarons Signs for Motherwell on Loan from Newcastle United

Rolando Aarons

Rolando Aarons has become Motherwell’s second January signing on deadline day. The 24-year-old Newcastle United player will spend the rest of the season on loan with the Steelmen.

Furthermore, the signing takes place right after the departure of 19-year-old James Scott to Hull for £1 million. A player in, a player out. Aarons is meant as a replacement for Scott.

Career So Far

Aarons made his English Premier League debut with the Magpies on 27 August 2014. Donning the number 16, he replaced Yoan Gouffran with 16 minutes left to go in a 2-0 loss to Manchester City.

Over the next few seasons, he began to compile a couple of hamstring injuries, the first while being with England U20s. Consequently, his game time became more and more scarce as he struggled to find his 2014/15 form, leading to a series of loan spells.

Rolando Aarons first went on loan in 2018. He has spent time on loan with Hellas Verona, Slovan Liberec, Sheffield Wednesday, and most recently, Wycombe Wanderers. His loan spell with Gareth Ainsworth’s men ended on 12 January, only halfway through the League One season.

He has now linked up with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell on a six-month deal, making this his fifth loan spell in just two years.

Good Move From Motherwell?

Motherwell sit third in the Scottish Premiership, behind the giants Rangers and Celtic. Aarons will certainly add talent to the side, whether it be on the left or the right. He can certainly help the Dossers keep that high placement running.

They just recently drew 0-0 with Hibernian, who sit in sixth. Their next game is on Saturday against Livingston, who are a place above the Hibs in fifth. This game could prove to be very important to Motherwell, who are only four points above Aberdeen.

Rolando Aarons is unlikely to play his first match only a day after joining the team, but he could well face league leaders Celtic on Matchday 25.
