The Deal

Bolton announced via their website they had signed the defender.

Delaney arrives on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee from Rochdale signing an 18-month deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Delaney reunites with Keith Hill having worked with him at Rochdale.

He has fallen down the pecking order at Rochdale and spent the first half of the season at AFC Wimbledon.

His arrival boosts the Bolton defence and continues their long term planning for next season.

He will bring a physical presence, good defensive awareness and leadership skills to a relatively new Bolton defence.

Keith Hill continues to recruit players he knows will give him 100% as Bolton look to finish the season well.

Delaney was excellent for AFC Wimbledon but due to injuries at Rochdale, he was recalled.

Bolton are delighted to have him and certainly will try to shore up Bolton’s very leaky defence.

He is Bolton’s eighth January signing as the Trotters continue to build a strong enough squad to try and avoid the impossible.

This also gives Keith Hill a chance to assess who is ready for the fight in League Two next season.

Delaney is ineligible for tomorrow’s game against Tranmere Rovers.

He will likely make his debut against Coventry City on February 8.

As Delaney Arrives, James Weir Departs Bolton

As well as announcing Delaney’s arrival, Bolton has confirmed James Weir has left the club.

A statement on the Bolton website read “Bolton Wanderers can confirm that James Weir has left the football club following the cancellation of his contract by mutual consent.

Joining the club on the eve of the 2019/20 season following his departure from Hull City, the 24-year-old midfielder went onto make 12 appearances for the club.

We’d like to wish James all the best in his future endeavours.”
