Toothless Tottenham Hotspur Must Sign Striker to Save Season

If toothless Tottenham Hotspur do not sign a striker in this January transfer window, their season is over. Top four is already unlikely and a bottom half of the table finish is now not unfeasible. Against Watford today, Spurs did not register one shot on target in the second half. Against a club fighting relegation, it is unacceptable.

Toothless Tottenham Hotspur Must Find Striker Solution

Harry Kane’s Injury

The injury to Harry Kane is obviously a blow for the North London club. What it once again shows up is the poor transfer policy the club have maintained for over five years. Son Heung-min is out of form, having not scored in seven games. Lucas Moura has only one goal in his last eight and, against Watford, consistently ran into opposition players. With Kane out, he is supposed to be Tottenham’s outlet up front but is struggling to muster anything meaningful. The picture is worrying and more so that the club seem to be doing little to find a solution.

Tottenham’s Season Can Be Saved

Despite being toothless, Tottenham can save their season. They are still in the Champions League and into the fourth round of the FA Cup which remains their most likely route to silverware.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham had started to look lost for ideas and creativity. Jose Mourinho has done little to solve that problem. Christian Eriksen doesn’t want to be at the club and has struggled for any sort for form for over six months. Harry Winks has gone from a player who ran a game against Real Madrid to a player who can’t pass two feet in front of him to find a teammate.

Tanguy Ndombele has shown signs of quality but his constant injuries have led Mourinho to question the players’ commitment and attitude. It all looks to be going the way of his relationship with Paul Pogba at Manchester United.

Who Can Get the Goals for Toothless Tottenham?

Fernando Llorente has been linked with a return to Spurs. He wasn’t prolific but he did score important goals for the club and he would at least provide a focal point that neither Son nor Lucas can.

Ze Luis has been linked from Porto whilst there is still rumoured interest in Wilfried Zaha, Krysztof Piatek and even Willian from Chelsea although he would not solve the issue of a lack of goals.

If Tottenham Hotspur fail to sign a striker in the January window, it will only serve to show the lack of ambition that exists at the very top of the club.
