The Deal

Rochdale announced the arrival of Smith via their website, with the striker having spent the first half of the season at Bristol Rovers.

Smith made 28 appearances for Bristol Rovers, scoring five goals. He goes from the promotion battle to the relegation scrap and should add some much-needed firepower to the Rochdale attack.

Rochdale in Need of Regular Goal Scorers

Aside from Ian Henderson, goals from the rest of the Rochdale team have been sparse. New signing Smith brings some much-needed firepower and another option going forward for Brian Barry-Murphy.

Henderson is in double figures, but only midfielder Callum Camps has more than three league goals this season. Dale are in desperate need of more goals to ensure their safety in League One.

Smith has demonstrated he can score goals at this level and will be confident he can score goals for Dale during his loan spell.

Rochdale are renowned for using their academy to its full potential, but they always look to do short term business each season. Smith is another example of Rochdale’s approach to the transfer window.

Smith Fills the Void Left by Rekiel Pyke

Smith arrives following the departure of Rekiel Pyke. Pyke was recalled by Huddersfield Town at the start of the window, which left Rochdale light in attacking areas. Smith arrives determined to showcase his abilities and continue his development.

Rochdale are hovering above the League One relegation zone and Smith will be hoping he is the man to ensure their status in the league. He could make his debut this weekend when Rochdale travel to Wycombe Wanderers.
