REPORT: Peterborough United Accept Bid From Charlton Athletic For Marcus Maddison

Club Statement

The Posh confirmed the news via their official website. A statement read: “Peterborough  United can confirm that as of this morning, Championship side Charlton Athletic have had a bid accepted for midfielder Marcus Maddison and the player has been given permission to discuss personal terms.

“Two other Championship clubs have made multiple bids for Maddison but do not currently have permission to speak to the player.”

Time to Take the Next Step

The 26-year-old is one of the most talented players in the Football League, having performed consistently for Peterborough since joining in 2014.

Maddison can operate either on the wing or as a number ten. He has been the mainstay of their attack since joining, and last season saw him register nine goals, as well as 18 assists.

His contribution to goals has continued into this season. He has ten goals and eight assists and has formed an impressive partnership with Ivan Toney and Mohammed Eisa in attack.

As a result, Maddison has shown that he can make the step up to the Championship, and with Charlton Athletic, he is likely to earn a first-team spot.

The Addicks are currently 19th in the Championship, five points ahead of the relegation zone. After an excellent start to the season, Lee Bowyer’s side now have just one win in their last 15 league games.

As a result, the Charlton boss will be hoping that Maddison can help steer them away from the drop. However, they have a tough run of fixtures ahead, with a trip to Preston followed by home games against Fulham and Barnsley, the latter of which could be vital in their bid for survival.
