Manchester United Youth Players That Could Leave at the End of the Season

Manchester United

The Manchester United youth academy has created some truly breathtaking players and there been no shortage of promise recently. Marcus Rashford came through the United academy and is now one of the Premier League’s top attackers. Furthermore, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, more youngsters have risen to the challenge of senior football. Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams have been the two most promising new talents under the leadership of the former United super sub. Some players have been not fared as well under the Norwegian. Two of these are Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes, and these United youngsters may leave at the end of the current season.

Manchester United Youth Players Who Could Leave

Tahith Chong Possible Old Trafford Exit

Tahith Chong burst onto the scene for Manchester United’s senior team in the summer of 2018. Despite bringing a lot of energy to the team and showing flashes of brilliance, Chong has had many a chance to prove himself on a large stage. In the eyes of some United fans, he is not good enough and should be let go.

While it is true that he has not had a Marcus Rashford -sque start to his time in the senior team, his criticism is a little uncalled for. He has certainly not lived up to the hype created about him when he debuted for the senior side. That is not to say, however, that he won’t become a good player. The media created such excitement about his potential that everyone was expecting him to be able to start in the first team straight away. This was not the case, and fans immediately called for his departure from the United side. Chong has not performed particularly well when called upon in the Manchester United senior team. That is not to say, however, that he cannot one day be a first-team player, and letting him go may not work well in Manchester United’s favour.

Tahith Chong has been linked with many of Europe’s top clubs, in particular, Juventus. The Bianconeri have reportedly offered him a huge contract. He could receive £35,000 per week and a large £2 million signing bonus from the Italian giants. Chong could well leave United this summer, as the Red Devils have failed to offer a contract which the player and his agent approve of.

Angel Gomes Potential Departure from Manchester

Angel Gomes has been compared to Lionel Messi. His level of skill is truly outstanding, however, his ability to play in the Premier League due to his minimal size has been the subject of much questioning. He has shown just how good he is at all levels, from the United academy to their first team. He and Jadon Sancho were put at the same level back when they first came into the picture at their respective clubs, however, it is the Borussia Dortmund man who is currently performing at a higher level.

United offered Gomes a “bumper new deal” in order to get him to stay at the club, however, this idea has backfired. The Englishman and his agent were “underwhelmed” by the Manchester side’s offer, and are now open to negotiating with other clubs.

Both Manchester United Youngsters May Leave

With Chong more heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford than Gomes, he seems more likely to leave. Despite this, none of the two academy graduates seem close to putting pen to paper and signing a new deal with United. The Red Devils want both players to stay, however, it is a genuine possibility that both of these promising footballers may leave the English giants in the summer. This could really come back to bite Manchester United.
