Wigan Athletic have made their first signing of the January transfer window. The Latics have signed Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell on loan for the rest of the season. Dowell will add some much-needed creativity to a Wigan side in desperate need of a creative spark in the number ten role.

Dowell Will Be Grateful for the Playing Time
Wigan announced via their Twitter account they had completed the signing of the talented midfielder.
Dowell has been somewhat of a journeyman in his career thus far playing for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Derby County.
The midfielder spent the first half of the season at Derby but a lack of playing time under Philip Cocu has seen Everton send him elsewhere.
Dowell was impressive at Sheffield United last season helping the Blades to promotion however, he struggled to assertive himself at Derby with Cocu preferring youngsters like Jason Knight.
He made just 10 appearances for Derby and Dowell will be hoping to have more success at Wigan who are fighting for survival in the Championship.
Paul Cook will be absolutely delighted to have the midfielder in having wanted him previously.
He will add some much-needed creativity to a Wigan side which struggles to score and create chances.
Dowell will reunite with his former Everton teammates Antonee Robinson and Joe Williams.
Dowell Out to Prove Himself
The Everton youngster will be out to prove himself after a disappointing spell at Derby.
On his day, he is untouchable and brings plenty of quality to the table. However, consistency has been his issue but with Paul Cook behind him, he will thrive in this Wigan team.
Dowell brings goals, direct runs and excellent passing which Wigan have severely lacked this season. Confidence could be key for getting the best out of him.
Dowell is eligible to make his debut against Leicester tomorrow in the FA Cup. He could make his league debut for Wigan against Bristol City on January 11th.
