Inexperienced Duo

The Burnley youngsters join Morecambe on loan until the end of the season.

A talented young duo, Phillips makes an impact as a midfielder while Cooney operates as a full-back.

The Burnley duo have regularly featured in the Clarets’ Under-23 squad.

Speaking after signing the duo, boss Derek Adams said: “I’ve watched both players in games recently and been impressed with them.

“Adam is a midfielder who was a youngster with Liverpool and Norwich and has a good pedigree.

“Ryan made his debut as a teenager at Bury and will add competition for places in the full-back areas.

“We are looking forward to working with both players.”

Four Signings in One Day

The additions of Phillips and Cooney come after Morecambe signed Toumani Diagouraga earlier today (Thursday 2 January).

Diagouraga has made just one appearance for Swindon Town, in the EFL Trophy, but has made almost 500 career appearances.

Diagouraga, a well-recognised name in the League, began at Paris Saint-Germain before joining Watford’s academy.

His career, spanning across eleven clubs, has seen him feature at the highest level in the EFL – appearing for clubs such as Brentford, Leeds United, Peterborough and Portsmouth.

32-year-old Diagouraga rejoins Shrimps boss Derek Adams having played for him at Plymouth Argyle during 2017-18.

Morecambe have also signed winger Jordan Slew from non-league Ashton United.

The 27-year-old joins the Shrimps on a contract until the end of the season.

Slew has former Football League experience having featured for Chesterfield, Cambridge United, Plymouth Argyle and Rochdale.

Their new addition was signed for Blackburn Rovers for £1.1 million in 2011.

The Shrimps are currently 23rd in League Two, one point clear of basement side Stevenage.
