Another Loan Move

Since joining Manchester City in 2015, Patrick Roberts has spent much of his time at the Etihad out on loan.

His most recent loan spell was at Premier League side Norwich City.

However, it was his least successful, as he failed to force his way in Daniel Farke’s side, making just four appearances in six months.

After joining City, the 22-year-old spent two-and-a-half seasons with Scottish club Celtic. He originally joined on an 18-month loan spell and established himself as a first-team regular by the end of the 2015-16 season.

Roberts continued to grow during his second season with Celtic. He scored ten goals – while laying on ten for his team-mates – as he helped them win yet another Scottish Premier League title.

After spending a further season with Celtic, Roberts decided to move abroad.

He joined Girona, who are apart of the City Football Group. However, his time in Spain was less successful, as he made just 21 appearances during his one-year loan.

A Boost for Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have seen an upturn in form in recent weeks, and the arrival of Patrick Roberts will be a welcome boost at the Riverside.

Jonathan Woodgate has managed to turn his fortunes around after looking destined for the sack. His side have won their last four games, conceding just once, and have just one defeat in their last seven games.

The Middlesbrough boss was pleased with the arrival of Roberts, saying: “He’s an exciting player, he wants to play games, and he has the bit between his teeth.

“He fits the mould of what we are looking at. He’s young and hungry, and wants to do well.”
