Derby County Loanee Jamie Paterson Returns to Bristol City

Loan Spell

The Rams confirmed that Paterson would return to Bristol City earlier today.

In a club statement, the Rams said that Bristol City had exercised their option to recall Paterson to Ashton Gate in January.

The attacker will return to his parent club on Wednesday, 1 January.

The Rams signed Paterson on a season-long loan deal from Bristol City in the summer transfer window.

Reports had previously circulated towards the end of November that Derby County were prepared to terminate Paterson’s loan.

The club confirmed then confirmed the rumours at mid-day, declaring the 28-year-old’s return would be made official on New Year’s Day.

Paterson was signed to add competition to Rams boss Philip Cocu’s attacking options; however, opportunities have been limited since making the move to Pride Park.

The 28-year-old has played 12 times in all competitions for Derby County, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

However, the attacker has not featured in the matchday squad for Derby’s last five matches; not making a Championship appearance since late November.

It is unknown whether Lee Johnson will choose to include Paterson in his first-team at Ashton Gate, or whether he will instead opt for another loan spell.

City boss Johnson said: “It’s good to welcome Pato back. He’s trained with us and attended yesterday’s game so we can get him up to speed and re-integrated as soon as possible.

“He offers us another attacking option as we head into the second half of the season and we are looking forward to working with him again.”

Paterson has made over 100 appearances for the Robins, scoring 16 goals and adding 17 assists.
