Can Oxford United Bounce Back Against League Leaders?

Chairboys a Tough Test for Karl Robinson’s Side

Wycombe secured their eighth win in twelve league games with victory over Burton Albion last weekend. Thus, they extended their lead at the top of League One to seven points.

Both sides have been in devastating form and it should make for a great encounter. But, can the U’s bounce back from back to back defeats for the first time since August?

Since 1994, the two sides have met 27 times with both teams winning ten. The U’s are also unbeaten in the last four against the Chairboys, winning three. In contrast, Wycombe winning just twice from their last nine meetings.

Wycombe have had a terrific campaign, and although this game isn’t classed as a derby by many fans, it is local and can be a feisty encounter.

Both sides will want the win for differing reasons. Oxford face Lincoln City and AFC Wimbledon before the new year. Meanwhile, the Chairboys face tough tests against Portsmouth and Coventry City respectively.

Team News, Top Scorers and Prediction

James Henry, who is the U’s top scorer this season, made the bench during the defeat against City as he returns from injury so would be a welcome return, but the U’s still have six players sidelined.

Cameron Brannagan and Tariqe Fosu will be looking to end their respective goal droughts, while Matty Taylor, who scored the equaliser against City, will be looking to reach double figures.

Left-back Joe Jacobson has scored six and provided three assists in 19 appearances, while forward Adebayo Akinfenwa has also found the net six times.

Prediction: Oxford United 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers
