According to Sky Sources, Vitor Pereira, the favourite for the vacant manager job at Everton, has dropped out of the running for the role.

Pereira is currently in charge of Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG. Speaking to Sky Sports, he has confirmed that he will be staying with his current club: “It’s always an honour and I am utterly grateful to be considered on a list by a club that I have so much respect for.

Who Next For Everton After They Are Rejected By Vitor Pereira?

Vitor Pereira was the top candidate for the Everton job. However, they will now have to turn their thoughts elsewhere.

Unai Emery is thought to be another candidate for the role at Goodison Park. The Everton board have held talks with the Spaniard, who was sacked by Arsenal on November 29.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has also been another name linked. However, speaking to Henry Latham-Coyle of the Independent, Howe has insisted that he is “100 per cent committed” to his current job.

As a result, Everton are facing a tough task in appointing a new manager to replace Marco Silva.

A Short-Term Appointment In Duncan Ferguson?

Current caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson could be a possible option as a short-term appointment until the end of the season.

Ferguson won his first game in charge as caretaker, a 3-1 win over Chelsea. The Toffees looked a side filled with confidence again, and the Scotsman won plaudits for his passion on the sideline. As a result, Duncan Ferguson could be a plausible option to takeover until the end of the season.
