Manchester City Transfer Rumours: Dayot Upamecano and Kingsley Coman

Manchester City transfer rumours

As with any international break, there have been plenty of Manchester City transfer rumours. Let’s take a look at the two most interesting rumours to come out of this particular break.

Manchester City Transfer Rumours

Dayot Upamecano

Multiple reports in the English press, including from Sam Meade of the Mirror, are saying that Manchester City are planning a move for RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano. The 20-year-old Frenchman is one of the most talented defenders of his generation. However, despite that, he has yet to nail down a starting role at Leipzig.

It’s tough to figure out a specific reason for why he has struggled to keep the starting role. Upamecano has made almost 100 appearances for Leipzig, but his lack of week-to-week playing time is probably more to do with the quality around him rather than his own shortcomings.

Players like Ibramima Konate, Nordi Mukiele and Willi Orban are all quality centre-backs, and new coach Julian Nagelsmann has played full-backs Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Hastenberg at centre-back as well.

Plus, Upamecano will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, making him an ideal candidate for a move. Manchester City would prefer to find new defenders who are available at discount prices. Someone like Upamecano perfectly fits that mould.

Kingsley Coman

One of the other interesting rumours coming from Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News this break involves Bayern Munich winger Kinsley Coman. Manchester City are keeping tabs on Coman as a part of Bayern’s ongoing attempt to sign Leroy Sane. The report says that if Bayern sign Sane this summer then Coman could be an option to replace him in Manchester.

The idea of having Coman replace Sane does not come without questions. Coman has battled significant foot injuries in his time in Germany, missing significant parts of the last three seasons with Bayern. If not for those concerns he would be an excellent replacement.

Coman is incredibly fast and gets to the byline with ease, making him a perfect fit at City. He has the added bonus of having played for Guardiola in the past. He could transition into this City team with ease and start putting in crosses for Aguero before we can blink.

As time goes on it seems more and more likely that Bayern is going to make Manchester City an offer they can’t refuse for Sane. Including Coman in that offer might be the best way for both sides to get what they want.
