Brewers To Upset The Foxes?

Burton enter the fixture high on confidence having lost on just three occasions from their previous 15 matches in all competitions.

Although, Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes will also arrive at the Pirelli bouncing with high morale following a devastating 9-0 victory at Southampton on Friday evening – a result which matched the highest-ever margin of victory in the Premier League.

The free-scoring Foxes have now found the net 21 times in their most recent five outings across all competitions.

The two sides are separated by 53 places in the football pyramid; however, the Brewers navigated past Premier League outfit Bournemouth in the previous round.

Bournemouth made ten changes for their visit to Staffordshire and it proved costworthy.

Clever finishes from Nathan Broadhead and Oliver Sarkic – his first goal since signing from Leeds United in the summer – ensured the Brewers were worthy winners.

Burton will, however, be wary of the last time they faced a top-six Premier League side in the EFL Cup.

The Brewers were beaten comfortably by a 10-0 aggregate scoreline to Manchester City in the semi-finals last season.

Team News

Leicester City have no fresh injury concerns ahead of their trip to Staffordshire.

This leaves supporters wondering how much Rodgers will rotate his squad; Friday night’s hat-trick heroes Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy could be rested along with in-form stars James Maddison, Kasper Schmeichel and Youri Tielemans.

This could provide the opportunity for fringe players such as Demarai Gray, Dennis Praet and Kelechi Iheanacho to get some minutes under their belts.

Burton had numerous players returning from injury feature in their 0-0 draw against Blackpool this past weekend.

Stephen Quinn, John Brayford and Oliver Sarkic all made the cut to start. David Templeton rose off the bench whereas Jake Buxton was an unused substitute.

Verdict

Leicester City’s recent goal-scoring exploits should give them enough to avoid being grounded by Burton Albion.

The Foxes have been impressive at home and on the road this season in the Premier League. As a result, they remain within the leading pack at the top of the standings.

This could lead to Rodgers opting to make changes to his squad in order to freshen his players up; however, even so, the quality difference should be one-step too great for Clough’s Burton Albion to record a scalp.
