Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Hoping for Spurs Start

Liverpool will be hoping for a return to winning form in the Premier League following a disappointing draw against Manchester United last weekend. They should be full with confidence, though, following their 4-1 victory over Genk in the Champions League. One player who should be filled with confidence is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain following his two goals against the Belgian side.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Hoping for Start Against Tottenham

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Hoping to Replicate Goal-scoring Form

Jurgen Klopp experimented with his midfield in midweek, with Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming into the side. The latter scored twice, boosting his chances of a start in this fixture. His all-round performance was also impressive, meaning that he should start against Tottenham Hotspur.

This leaves two more slots in midfield with several players hoping to start. Fabinho’s importance to the side in the defensive midfield role means that he should feature; the opportunity to rest him will come in the Carabao Cup next week. Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum will both be hoping to return to the side following a rest in Europe. Meanwhile, Adam Lallana‘s standing in the squad has been boosted following his late equaliser against Manchester United last week, with James Milner also an option.

First-Choice Defence to Return

The midweek clash against Genk also saw an unfamiliar defence take to the field, with James Milner and Dejan Lovren slotting in at right-back and centre-back respectively.

The weekend’s game should see Joel Matip and Trent Alexander-Arnold return to their usual spots with Klopp describing them as “fine.” Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson should also retain their places in the side. Alisson Becker will continue in goal behind them whilst Adrian will continue to deputize.

We’ve Got Salah, aha, Mane Mane

It was disappointing to see Mohamed Salah not passed fit to face Manchester United last week, though he grabbed himself a goal and assist in midweek. He will be hoping to replicate that form in the Premier League.

Sadio Mane also scored a goal and recorded an assist against Genk. Both he and Salah will start on the wings, with Roberto Firmino accompanying them up top. Divock Origi disappointed against Manchester United though remains a squad option while Xherdan Shaqiri is still injured.

Predicted XI: Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah
