After hanging up his boots after losing the Europa League final with Arsenal against former club Chelsea, Petr Cech retired from playing football. However, he rejoined the Blues in a new capacity, that of a technical director and performance advisor.

Now, just months after beginning his new role, Cech is set to start yet another new career.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to play with the Phoenix to get the match experience.

“I hope I can help this young team to achieve their goals for the season and try to win as many games as possible when I have the chance to play.

“After 20 years of professional football this is going to be a wonderful experience for me to play the game I loved to watch and play as a kid.”

One-Year Deal

Guildford Phoenix confirm Petr Cech agreed to a one-year deal to tend goal. He will wear the number 39 and trained with the hockey club after his retirement in hopes of such a deal being offered.

Phoenix head coach Andy Hemmings said, “the signing of Petr is massive for the Phoenix. He is a great guy who trains hard and I cannot wait to see him make his debut.”

Cech kept 202 clean sheets over the course of an illustrious Premier League career. 11 of his 15 seasons in England were with Chelsea while the final four he spent at Arsenal.

The Czech Republic native won four Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one Champions League and one Europa League.
