Bradford City Welcome Northampton Town to Utilita Energy Stadium

Bradford City

Bradford City vs Northampton Town takes place in the seventh match week of League Two and with just one point separating them, it should be a tightly contested game. Both teams have been slow out of the blocks but with Bradford aiming for automatic promotion, the pressure for points is building.

The Cobblers were beaten 2-0 at home to Peterborough United in the Leasing.com Trophy on Tuesday night and will look back to the league in hope of a victory.

Manager Keith Curle saw positives in the defeat against the Posh and wants his side to be more ruthless in the final third. Northampton have plenty of height and experience in their ranks to cause Bradford’s defence some problems.

Curle’s side added defender Michael Harriman, 26, to their ranks yesterday. The free-agent signed days after Joe Bunney left the club to sign for Bolton Wanderers. Harriman should be ready to start after already training with the club over the past weeks. Ryan Watson broke his collar bone in Tuesday’s defeat and will be out for the foreseeable future.

Charlie Goode and Jordan Turnbull have returned to training and might be available for Saturday’s game. Forward Matt Warburton will undergo fitness testing after returning from an ankle injury.

Bradford’s start to the season has been a mixed bag and fans are demanding a dominant performance this Saturday from the Bantams. Gary Bowyer has taken a lot of flack from supporters with many believing his formation tinkering is causing harm to what could be a strong squad.

Bradford’s Tuesday night game, against the newly-saved Bolton Wanderers, was almost a highly embarrassing affair. Bolton’s squad had an average age of 19 and gave a good fight against a strong Bradford team. However, the Bantams were unlucky in front of goal. Jordan Gibson hit the post in a situation that should have been an easy finish. Harry Pritchard and Paudie O’Connor also went close to scoring for them.

Bowyer will reinstate his strongest line-up against the Cobblers. James Vaughan will be leading the line, with new recruits Aramide Oteh and Dylan Connelly pushing for a start. Jamie Devitt will be sidelined due to a hamstring injury picked up against Wanderers on Tuesday.

Bradford City vs Northampton should be a tightly contested affair and but bookies still place Bradford as favourites to win. Although, their stuttering form means Northampton could very easily cause an upset.

Referee Leigh Doughty will be in charge of the contest. Doughty has overseen three league games this season, showing four yellow cards.
