REPORT: Paris Saint-Germain to Complete Signings of Keylor Navas and Mauro Icardi

Transfer deadline deals can happen in the blink of an eye, and that is exactly what is happening at Paris Saint-Germain today.  The French giants are signing Keylor Navas from Real Madrid and Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan, according to Fabrizio Romano.  However, it is the deals that PSG got that make these such outstanding signings.

Paris Saint-Germain Complete Double Signing

Keylor Navas

Let’s start with Keylor Navas because this has been in the works for a few weeks.  Obviously, Navas has been looking to leave Real Madrid.  The Costa Rican international wants to play, and Paris Saint-Germain is a great place to do that.  The reported price tag of €15 million plus a year-long loan of Alphonse Areola makes this a great deal.

That’s right, as part of the deal, the current PSG keeper will move to Madrid to be Thibault Courtois’s backup for the upcoming season.  After that, he will return to Paris, where they can decide what to do with him.

Mauro Icardi

The bigger story, however, is Mauro Icardi.  The exiled Inter Milan striker has previously refused every club that has tried to sign him this summer.  His wife even said that he expects to stay in Milan this season.  However, PSG, to their credit, saw an opportunity.

They have agreed to a loan deal with an option to buy next summer.  That option is reportedly €70 million, though the number is not 100% clear yet.  More importantly, it is an option to buy, rather than an obligation.  If things go wrong or Icardi becomes a problem, they can let him go after the season.

It gets more interesting if things go well.  Icardi is still a world-class centre-forward, and a lethal finisher if provided chances.  In that sense, he is a very similar player to Edinson Cavani.  He could be a ready-made replacement if Cavani leaves for Miami next summer as has been reported by Joel Soria of NBC Sports.

Even still, Icardi joins an absolutely lethal attack in Paris.  Cavani, Angel Di Maria, Kylian Mbappe, and surprisingly Neymar.  Fitting them on the pitch seems impossible, but with Icardi and Navas, PSG are going to be incredible to watch.
