Tottenham Hotspur Manager Mauricio Pochettino Laments Transfer Window Changes

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has lamented the change to transfer deadline day. The English window closed on August 8th whilst Spain, Germany and France all have until September 2nd to make new signings.

This is “madness” to the Spurs manager who wants common sense to prevail for next season.

Mauricio Pochettino Unhappy With Transfer Deadline Changes

Advantage Given to European Clubs

Talking at his post-match press conference after the draw against Manchester City, Pochettino said:

“We need to go back and operate in the same way that they operate in Europe because I think it’s massive when you go to compete in the Europa League or Champions League. Champions League teams can create a problem for a team like us.”

The changes that Premier League chairman agreed to means that European clubs can try and reduce transfer fees and also damage rivals in both the Europa and Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs Vulnerable

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes even his own chairman, Daniel Levy, will be regretting agreeing to move the deadline for transfers in England:

“I wasn’t in agreement [with the decision] but at that moment they believed that was best for the clubs,” said the Spurs manager. “But I think he [Levy] and a lot of people now realise it was a massive mistake. I hope that we fix the problem for the next season.”

The decision has left clubs vulnerable and managers will be glad when September 2nd arrives.

Tottenham the Most Vulnerable of All

Spurs are the most vulnerable of Premier League clubs and it is no wonder that Tottenham Hotspur manager Pochettino will be happier when the window closes. Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose could all be subject to late bids from abroad. Losing just one of these players would weaken the squad with no way of replacing them until January.

Parity needs to be restored.
