Arsenal FPL Preview: Fixtures and Picks

Arsenal had a disappointing 2018/19 season. They failed to secure Champions League football and could not win a trophy as well. Their transfer activities have made their fans excited about the upcoming season though.

First Six Fixtures

Newcastle United (A) | Burnley (H) | Liverpool (A) | Tottenham Hotspur (H) | Watford (A) | Aston Villa (H)

The Gunners have a tricky start to the season. Unai Emery’s men will face two of the top six sides in their first four fixtures. With a defence as brittle as Arsenal’s, the trip to Anfield could be hugely problematic. Many FPL managers will consider Arsenal fantasy assets only after gameweek four. However, Arsenal fantasy assets can still return good scores as their side is very much attack-heavy.

Best Fantasy Assets

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0) is the superstar of the team. The Gabonese forward was the only one to cross the 200 FPL point mark for Arsenal last season. He won the golden boot with 22 goals and provided seven assists as well. This season also he will carry the hopes and dreams of Arsenal fans. With the purchase of Nicolas Pépé, Aubameyang should get more chances to score.

Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5) won the Arsenal player of the season award last season. His all-round game helps the side immensely. He will also welcome the arrival of Nicolas Pépé. The only issue with Lacazette is the fact that he gets subbed very frequently and is sometimes left out.

The arrival of Nicolas Pépé (£9.5) in a club-record fee of £72 million has motivated the Gooners all over the world. The fans were disgusted with the board before that and started a social media campaign against them. However, that has died down completely since. Nicolas Pépé finished the 2018-19 Ligue 1 season with 22 goals, second only to Kylian Mbappé, with 11 assists, and was named in the UNFP Team of the Year. He has all the attributes to do really well in the Premiership. However, it might take a few matches for him to get accustomed to the rigours of English top flight.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0) has racked up plenty of minutes in pre-season and should start the opening fixture against Newcastle. The Armenian is a very inconsistent player but has the potential to return good FPL scores.

Bernd Leno (£5.0) has a fragile and unsettled defence in front of him. Clean sheets might be few and far between for the German. However, he is likely to make lots of saves with potential for bonus points.

Differentials

Daniel Ceballos (£5.5) is a highly talented player signed on loan from Real Madrid. The Spaniard could do well for Arsenal and also at FPL. Might be one to keep an eye on.
