Transfer Rumours: Roma and Juventus

transfer rumours

Last Word on Football’s Football Transfer News looks at the latest transfer rumours from around world football. In today’s edition, Roma move for Gonzalo Higuain and Pau Lopez.  Plus Mattia Perin faces his Juventus exit.

European Transfer Rumours

Gonzalo Higuain

Juventus are desperate to shed Gonzalo Higuain’s €9.5 million salary ahead of the 2019/2020 season.  After his poor showing for both AC Milan and Chelsea last season, Juve are having trouble finding a buyer at their price.  Luckily for them, Roma are looking to rebuild and need a new striker.

Higuain has initially been reluctant to join Roma, but he has had no luck finding a higher quality destination.  Therefore, Corriere Dello Sport is reporting that Higuain could be convinced by a top tier Italian side willing to make him their focal point.

Roma qre expected to offer Juventus a €10 million loan fee plus a €27 million purchase option for next season.  It’s not hard to see why Juventus would be apprehensive towards another loan deal for Higuain, but it is unlikely that they will find a more suitable destination for Pipito.

Juve’s Revolving Goalkeepers

With Gianluigi Buffon announcing his return to Juventus yesterday, it means Mattia Perin‘s days in Turin are coming to an end.  The 26-year-old Italian only joined Juve from Genoa for €12 million last summer, but the unexpected return of Buffon has forced Perin to look for opportunities elsewhere.

So far Juventus have been contacted by multiple clubs.  Calciomercato is reporting that Porto and Sevilla have both reached out about the keeper, but Perin would prefer to stay in Italy, specifically AC Milan.  There are a ton of transfer rumours surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Perin would find it ideal to step in if he left.

Pau Lopez to Roma

Perin is not the only goalkeeper in Mercato news today as Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Roma has decided to pursue Pau Lopez.  Roma had some of the worst goalkeeping play in Serie A last season.  Their replacement for the departed Allison, Robin Olsen, turned out to be an abject failure.

So this summer they have decided that Real Betis keeper Pau Lopez will replace Olsen.  The former Espanyol man played well with both his hands and feet for Betis last season, well enough that Roma are ready to pay €25 million for him to take over.
