Career So Far for Kostas Manolas

Manolas started his career at Thrasyvoulos in 2007. His uncle, Stelios Manolas, was the technical director of AEK Athens in 2009. Kostas Manolas impressed his uncle. Eventually, AEK Athens signed him in 2009.

After three years at AEK Athens, KManolas moved to Olympiacos in 2012 on a free transfer. Manolas improved a lot there and caught the eyes of major European clubs. In fact, there were rumours linking him to various English clubs. However, Manolas moved to Italian club AS Roma in 2014 for an estimated fee of €15 million.

Rise to the Top

Kostas Manolas is considered by many as one of the best defenders in the world. He was named the best purchase of the season on his first season at AS Roma in 2014/15. Since then, he has been linked to many clubs. However, Manolas spent five seasons in Rome. His most memorable contribution was the winning goal he scored against Barcelona. That really was an epic Champions League comeback win. The goal and the commentary by Peter Drury have reached iconic status.

Forming a Formidable Partnership

Kostas Manolas will form a potentially devastating defensive partnership with Kalidou Koulibaly at Napoli. In fact, the Greek defender has qualities that should work really well with Koulibaly’s strengths. Carlo Ancelotti now has a dream centre-back pairing at Napoli. In fact, it was a shrewd and timely move considering the departure of Raul Albiol.
