Ferland Mendy Signs in Summer of Transformation

Mendy joined Lyon in 2017 and has made 79 appearances for the Ligue 1 side throughout two seasons.

Mendy, previously on the books at Paris Saint-Germain as a youngster, made 40 appearances in all competitions last term.

The former Le Havre defender played in France’s two European Qualifiers last week.

Mendy will be presented at the Santiago Bernabeu for the first time next Wednesday.

Ferland Mendy, previously hailed as similar to Marcelo, was recently heavily praised.

“Mendy is the French Marcelo when he joins the attack” said Yvan Le Mee, Mendy’s agent, according to Spanish outlet iusport.

“Mendy is more complete than Lucas Hernández, and he has just gone to Munich for 80 million. With only 23 years old, Ferland is at the epicentre of the market, half of Europe wants to sign him!”

“He is good offensively and defensively, and that’s very rare, balanced guys, with energy to play forward and strength to cover their backs are very uncommon, at their age, there’s no one better.”

Mass Spending Continues

After a disappointing season in which Real finished third in La Liga, boss Zinedine Zidane has highlighted a number of areas of improvement.

In a mass transformation by Zidane, 24-year-old Mendy has become the latest addition to Real Madrid; the defender joins Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao and Rodrygo Goes in the Spanish capital.

Hazard agreed a five-year contract with Madrid after scoring 110 goals in 352 appearances for Chelsea. The Belgian international’s move from Stamford Bridge could exceed £150 million.

Meanwhile, Serbia striker Jovic is set to move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Madrid for a reported £53million.

Porto defender Eder Militao was added in March for £42.7 million; meanwhile, 18-year-old Brazillian forward Rodrygo signed from Santos for £40 million.
