FTN: Tottenham Hotspur Edition

Welcome to Football Transfer News, brought to you by Last Word on Football. On today’s edition, we will focus solely on Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur. The North London outfit are currently the only side in Europe’s top five leagues yet to make a signing. Given there is less than 24 hours until the transfer window shuts in England, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy ought to get a move on.

Latest on Tottenham’s Transfer Rumours

Grealish Deal in Doubt

Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish may not move to Tottenham after all. The star has been the subject of speculation and bids all summer by Tottenham, but the deal appears to be off after the Birmingham club’s chairman stated the Englishman will not leave the club this summer. Grealish is reportedly frustrated that the move has seemingly fallen through, however, has not given up hope of a move yet.

Alderweireld to United?

Toby Alderweireld’s transfer saga appears to be heading to the final day as well. Manchester United have chased him all summer but appeared to explore alternative targets recently. After being rejected by Leicester City and Bayern Munich for Harry Maguire and Jerome Boateng respectively, United seem to be going back in for Alderweireld. Tottenham Hotspur remain keep on French attacker Anthony Martial so a player swap deal may be in the works.

Dries Mertens to Tottenham?

Napoli star Dries Mertens has emerged as a late target for Tottenham. Should the Martial and Grealish transfers fall through, then the Belgian will be used as an alternative. Daniel Levy only rates the Belgian around the £20 million mark so the deal is unlikely to be completed.

Another Midfielder

Tottenham hope to sign a central midfielder before the deadline. Bournemouth’s Lewis Cook and Inter Millan’s Marcelo Brozovic are Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred choices. Kenyan midfielder Victor Wanyama is a Roma target but may be used as a makeweight in the Brozovic deal.

German Double Deal

Leon Bailey and Jonathan Tah of Bayern Leverkusen have reportadly been identified as targets for Tottenham. The pair, combined, would cost the club north of £70 million. Winger Bailey is regarded as a great prospect and would provide depth in attack while Tah would likely be used as a Toby Alderweireld replacement.
